Tell us a little something about your first girlfriend/boyfriend.
Hmmm, I'm going to tell you about my first real serious boyfriend, the one that lasted more than a couple of months.
The things I will always remember:
- A skateboard called Ajax
- A dreadlocked fringe hanging over his face
- A tatty Sonic Youth t-shirt
- Going to the Reading Festival to see Butthole Surfers
- His mothers smallholding and milking goats
- Cheating on him with a mutual good friend
- His forgiveness
He is not, however, the one that got away. That's another story.
So, I get myself a new space to witter and desert it almost immediately.
I've been reading...
I've been totally engrossed in The Da Vinci Code, couldn't put it down and I'm thankful to Dan Brown for the experience, it's a long time since a grown ups book gripped me like this. There's been a lot of hype and along with that many criticisms of the novel and it's content, I'm glad I avoided all the nay sayers on the tv and just got on and read it. I loved it for what it basically is, a fast paced thriller. I don't know enough about these things to comment on the validity of the plot but did love all the stuff about the sacred feminine and goddess symbolism. It made me want to read on, to carry on with the reading I started many years ago about paganism and Wicca.
I've been sorting...
At the beginning of July I declared this the month of the house. For ages I've been sewing up a storm, going crazy for Japanese craft books and obsessing about pretty fabric, meanwhile the house looks like a tip. So, I've been trying to smarten the place up and clear some room in preperation for the six week summer holidays. It's one of those jobs you start and right away regret because there's no going back. This is the last week of school, so if those jobs aren't done by Friday they just ain't getting done - or at least they'll be getting done so slowly it'll make not one jot of a difference. Ho Hum.
I will be gardening...
If July was for the house then August is for the garden. I'm envisioning happy little boys romping in the garden while I potter in the garden. As I'm a fair weather gardener our late Spring meant I missed the start of the growing season and I'm relying on donations from friends and trying to resist the temptation of local plant shops. I'm going to work on clearing the weed infested corners and clearing the ivy, generally neatening up the garden and thinking about a raised bed for veggies next year.
I really need some sleep, big day tomorrow as Alex's arm cast is coming off and I predict over exited skateboarding (because a broken arm won't have taught him a lesson) and general silliness...goodnight.
Testing out this handy little gadget, something I think I'll use a lot because I read a silly amount of books - often for work and occassionally I get to read a grown-ups book just for the sheer hell of it.
Finally the waiting list has subsided and when a reader bought in The Da Vinci Code on Saturday I snaffled it away and snuck it home. I'm slightly ashamed to have been caught up in the hoopla but I'm only a couple of chapters in and I'm hooked.
I'm very, very glad that I've not watched any of the millions (literally) of programmes discecting and criticising the novel, I intend to read, enjoy and forget about it just as I do all the thrillers I read. Sometimes a book is just for fun.
So, you can't sleep and you know you have a mad, hectic day ahead of you...hmmm, what to do?
Check emails, find invite to come play with Vox and pootle straight round.
I'm having fun so far, haven't even decided what to call this here blog or what to write about but, well, it's shiny and new so got to be worth staying up late for.
I wondered about having Bono as my user name, it made me chuckle - I find myself a lot more amusing than others do unfortunatly. I can blather about anything I like in my first post, nobody discovers a blog for ages so it's unlikey this stream of drivel will see the light of day.
Feels nice to start over, new name (first new name in years, have been Pea for so long I forgot it wasn't my real name) and after several different online journals in several different places I think this is going to be home for a while.
I'm going to test out the title gizmo by leaving it blank, let's see what vox wants to call this post...

Hey! *waves* Glad you found me - it's been a while;) read more
